Kobe Day, Unsung Player Day, CP3 Day, do you have a calendar production company on the side or something? And who made you Mayor of the Internets that you can declare "days"?
I want a CelticsBlog day.
In a related story, My Utah Jazz will be celebrating Deron Williams day on May 5th.
Bitches.
Well, in the spirit of sportsmanship, I'm in.
Nonetheless, I have to say that I thought it was in better taste that Kobe Day was initiated and organized by Kobe haters. Now, nobody's going to notice because there really aren't any CP3 haters, but were I to organize Kobe Day, I think we all know what the reaction to that would be.
The premise for KBBD was also a bit better. "One day, just one, for even the haters to say something good about Kobe." Does CP3 have haters? Not that it's a bad idea, it's just that the original one had a better premise (hold a Shaq or Ron Artest day, and the premise would be more interesting).
And what's with doing it on the day that At The Hive expects to be the day that Kobe wins the MVP Award? I would love to do CP3 day on any regular day of the year — KBBD was just another day — but doing it this way feels kinda spiteful, like they're trying to steal some thunder. Kinda a passive aggressive way of resisting against Kobe winning the MVP?
All that said, I'm still gonna do it. And I have no problem spreading some CP3 love (actually, already had some of that planned for the near future). I just think the context, timing, etc., could be better.
What's up Josh. Believe me when I say the date was totally a coincidence. Above all, I wanted CPBD to not be part of the whole MVP thing. We picked the date almost a full month ago since May 6th is Chris Paul's birthday. Unfortunately, as we found out Saturday, May 6th will also be the day of the MVP announcement.
I agree with you about a 'Ron Artest' day or something similar being more attention grabbing. The main reason I organized the day was to ensure that one of the greatest point guard seasons ever doesn't go unrecognized. Nothing more, nothing else.
The last thing I wanted to do was steal Kobe's thunder, so my apologies. Congratulations to him for winning his first MVP, and thanks for your sense of sportsmanship.
ATH,
Apparently I totally missed the part where this is CP3's birthday. Fair enough on the date, though it's still kinda unfortunate.
My entry for CPD is still coming. It's been a hectic couple of weeks (I live in Kansas now, as of a day or so ago).
Something tells me that Chris Paul will have a long career just filled with recognition. Everything going for him, and so far I can't see any negatives that would detract from all the positives.
